Southern California decided to light up in flames THIS weekend. Of course it was the weekend I’ve been looking forward to for an extrememly long time---THE engagement picture weekend. This Sunday has been on my mind for months…deciding what to wear, how to do my make-up, what John’s going to wear, checking the weather every five minutes to see if there was any chance of rain in Orange County, confirming that the ladies were coming on time to do my hair/make-up trial, making sure the photographer was ready and getting directions to the beautiful beach in Laguna.
I woke up Saturday morning-still feeling achy from the cold I’ve been trying to get over for the past week- and I looked outside the window to find a huge black cloud. Fire? No, it couldn’t be…it’s November! Before I could think too much about it I noticed the tornadoes of ash outside…sure enough Cali was up in flames…again. But this time was different, the clouds were much darker then I’m used to—yes, you kinda get used to it here. I ran and turned on the TV….every channel had live coverage of a mobile home park going up in flames about 15 miles east of us. Btw, East to me is completely backwards when I’m in the valley so I think it’s actually North-which is my East.*don’t ask
Well today is our Saturday with Davis. We spend every other Saturday with him as well as every Wednesday-I wish it were more and John says that someday soon it will be, but for now that’s the way it is. So with the fires and all we decided to escape the ashy Valley and head down to LA to get my ring fixed and visit with Uncle Kevin. Davis was ecstatic when we arrived-Uncle Kevin and Ted’s house is full of super hero toys, 3 dogs (Kevin rescued another one), and to my surprise Ted even has an Emmy that stands proud above the fireplace. The guys had a blast, especially Davis. I spent most of the day reading Twilight in the sunny room trying to keep from getting everybody sick with this annoying cold. I can't wait til this Friday to see the movie!!!
After dropping Davis off at his moms we headed back to LA--in traffic of course since multiple freeways shut down as the fire swept across Southern California. We spent time with good friends and watched the UFC fight at Jack and Marci’s house. Jack asked John to be one of his groomsmen which made John really happy. I was showing Marci a picture of my wedding dress on the computer and decided to check my email. I had an email from the make up ladies cancelling our appointment due to the fires-Dammit!
Sunday, the day of THE pictures, I decided to go to MAC to get my make-up done since my original plan fell thru, literally last minute, in an EMAIL! Of course Topanga was completely booked so I picked up mom and we drove out to the Thousand Oaks Nordstrom. The lady that did my make up was average, actually she was extremely heavy but she did an average job on the make up. I had her use my lip pencil which she then forgot to give back to me-guess that’s my fault too. Anyways, as soon as I finished, I get a call from the photographer. “I’ve been in the car for an hour and there is no possible way to reach the beach. Every freeway in Orange County is closed.” Great. Especially after I just spent $59 at MAC.
